We would like you to meet one of our first-year electrical apprentice’s Sam Bates. Being relatively new to the electrical Industry Sam is taking in all he can from the Journeyman and lead hands he is working with on his various jobs. Sam is building his electrical skills in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems according to the proper industry standards. He started his career by spending 6 months in the residential sector of electrical work, and decided he wanted to learn more on the industrial side.
In building his skills and taking on new tasks Sam appreciates how safety conscious Stratus is. It gives him the confidence to take on difficult tasks because he knows that Stratus is always open and willing to hear the concerns of employees. Sam appreciates the fact that “in order for us to be effective, trust and communication through safety and respect is key”. We couldn’t agree more and love the fact that we can engrain a safety mentality into our employees from the beginning.
Sam hopes to continue to learn all he can to become a well-rounded electrician who has strong knowledge of the various aspects and characteristics of the industry. Sam says, “I like the amazement I get from friends and family as they listen to my experiences”. When Sam isn’t telling his friends all the cool things he is learning at work, you can usually find him fishing, cooking, or playing baseball/basketball. We look forward to seeing Sam grow and becoming a more confident electrician as he continues to work through the apprenticeship program. We know it’s not easy but there is no Stratus without us, and we are excited to support Sam through his electrical career.

Couldn’t agree more! Having done my first and second year of my apprenticeship at stratus was outstanding! The opportunities and places I went and the people I met and worked with along the way are memories I still talk about with my apprentices to this day!
Looking good Sam!
Things are looking up! We are kicking our work into high gear with a few jobs at the Alstar Group Facility located in Calgary. We have quite the crew installing and testing MI EHT on off module spools, as well as installing Cable Tray onto Equipment Module.
Our construction team and quality program are working hand in hand to turnover a quality product to both our valued customer and the end user. With an experienced/efficient team like Stratus our customers can trust in getting a top-quality product that brings repeat customers coming back to us. #stratuselectricalandinstrumentation #getthejobdoneright✅ #makeingourcustomerliveseasy #electrical #quality #safety

Over the weekend Stratus participated in both the Edmonton and Calgary Steps for life 5 km walk in support of families impacted by workplace tragedies and promoting workplace safety.
We had an incredible team this weekend who not only physically came to walk but also raised funds for threads of life. Stratus raised a total of $8,516 and we could not have done it without the support of those amazing individuals who donated and to our partners in business Hammerhead Resources, Westcan Power, Mountain view benefits and AES-RESA. Thank you for all your donations and your support!
It was a beautiful day with impactful speeches that reminded us to reflect on the importance of workplace safety, and how we can support one another to continue safe practices in the workplace.
Thank you again to everyone who donated, let’s continue to walk the talk and make everyday a little safer.
If you or a loved one have been affected by a workplace fatality, or have a loved one affected by a life-altering injury or occupational disease, Threads of Life offers supportive programs and services to help you on your journey. Please visit threadsoflife.ca/ for more information.

Red Dress Day, also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People, is observed on May 5th. The day honors and brings awareness to the thousands of Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people who have been subject to disproportionate violence in Canada. Red Dress Day was inspired by Métis artist Jaime Black’s REDress Project installation, in which she hung empty, red dresses to represent the missing and murdered women. Red dresses have become symbolic of the crisis as a result of her installation.
On this day, Stratus E&I and our Indigenous Relations Committee invite everyone to wear Red, hang a Red Dress outside your door, or wear a Red Dress on this day to honor those who have passed and are missing. Let’s bring awareness to this human rights crisis and be leaders towards Truth and Reconciliation!

We are wrapping up a few E-houses that our team has been working on for a major end user. Similar to many other projects, the pandemic halted production and we were forced to de-mobilize our crews. Although restarting a project mid production has its challenges, we couldn’t be more excited to re-mobilize our original crew from 3 years ago and finish what we started!
Like the rest of the world this job had to not only tackle supply chain issues, but a re-evaluation of where the new starting point would be, and tracking down three-year-old information that changed many hands over time. These hurdles are not typical project experiences, but we had a great crew successfully tackling these issues and got the job done!
Our crew completed the installation of:
-Medium voltage equipment such as switchgear and 4000HP VFD's
-Cable tray system and all associated cabling
-Low voltage MCC / panels / transformers
-Building services such as plugs / lights / data ports/ HVAC/ PTs etc.
-Full electrical integration with the equipment in the building back to their PLC
-Commissioning and testing support
-Delivering a comprehensive QAQC package and executing turnover

Today we pause, reflect, and remember those who lost their lives or suffered an injury or illness due to their work.
We want today to be a reminder of how important safe work practices are and how we all need to work together to prevent further tragedies.
