With a diverse background that spans professional sports, executive leadership, and over 15 years of industry experience, Joey brings a unique blend of discipline, strategy, and heart to the work he leads. A former NHL player, his transition from elite athletics to business leadership reflects a lifelong commitment to resilience, teamwork, and excellence.
Today, Joey leads Stratus Origins with a clear mission: to develop people, strengthen Indigenous capacity, and create lasting economic opportunities for communities across Western Canada. Under his leadership, Stratus Origins doesn’t just deliver results—it builds careers, fosters mentorship, and champions a new era of Indigenous participation in industry.

Carey Painchaud - Chief Operating Officer
Carey is a Saskatchewan-born and raised leader with over 35 years of experience in the construction and business sectors. As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Stratus Origins, he brings a wealth of expertise to projects that emphasize cultural understanding, community engagement, and long-term economic reconciliation. Throughout his career, Carey has been committed to working closely with Indigenous communities, government agencies, and private-sector partners, aiming to create more than just transactional relationships. For him, it’s about fostering meaningful partnerships based on respect, cultural awareness, and shared goals.
An advocate for Indigenous rights, Carey has played a pivotal role in shaping initiatives that support employment equity and community-focused development. His guiding philosophy, “being Indigenous-led means building with respect—for people, for land, and for legacy,” is central to everything he does at Stratus Origins. This principle ensures that the company remains firmly dedicated to responsible and ethical business practices.
Beyond his role as a project manager, Carey is passionate about cultivating partnerships that drive economic and social growth within Indigenous communities. His work aims to leave a lasting legacy, one that contributes to the prosperity and well-being of future generations.
Devin Kohlhauser - Business Development Manager
Devin brings over a decade of relationship-building experience across Western Canada’s industrial sector to his role as Business Development Manager at Stratus. With a business degree from MacEwan University and a background in oil and gas, Devin thrives on connecting with people and growing partnerships that drive long-term success. He’s passionate about expanding the Stratus brand and constantly pushing himself to learn more about the technical side of the business—embracing the challenge of product knowledge as a daily opportunity for growth.
Known for his team-first mindset, Devin aligns deeply with the Stratus core value, “There is no Stratus without US.” Having spent much of his life in team environments, from sports to business, he understands that success is rooted in collaboration. Whether he’s on the golf course competing across the province or skiing, Devin brings energy, focus, and a commitment to building something bigger than himself—both inside and outside of work.
